Random Noodling

I'm in writer's limbo. You know. That period of time between stories. I'm still going through STROKE OF GENIUS, getting ready to turn in it October 15th. And while I'm playing with that, my subconscious is spinning, looking for the next premise that will propel me 400 pages.

In the meantime, I thought I'd share a couple more photos from our recent trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. My DH snapped this pic of moonrise over the dunes after my cousin's wedding ceremony while we were waiting for the reception to begin.

Then on the way home from NC, we stopped in Hoboken, NJ, to visit my neice and her husband for a couple hours. I shot this view of NYC from the car as we picked our way through hellish traffic to the GW Bridge on the Jersey side of the Hudson. My parents were frankly agog at NYC and wondered why anyone would want to live there.

Theatre? Art museums? The buzz of millions of lives intersecting? None of those things allure them and I confess I can only take mega-cities in small doses. (Boston seems quaint and friendly in comparison to the Big Apple)

What about you? Are you happy where you live? Do you secretly crave someplace else?

A few years ago we took a vacation in the Northeast. We spent a day in New York City, a day in Boston, a lot of time in Vermont... basically just traveled that area. I have to admit, I have no desire to stay in NY city for more than a day or two. The crowd and the hustle and bustle is just too much for me. The day that we spent in Boston made me homesick, not for where I live now but for where I grew up. Boston is probably much larger, but it reminded me so much of Savannah that I told my husband that I could move there without batting an eye, even with the dreadfully cold winters. I loved it so much.

For the most part I am happy with the area that I live in. I am not in the big city, which is the best thing ever, but I am not so far from civilization that I want to pull my hair out for lack of interaction with people. I like the small town living but I need to be close enough to drive to a big bookstore or mall. The only thing I really dislike about being in North GA is that I am so far away from the beach which is my favorite place to be. But if I lived near the beach I wouldn't have the mountains...so its a catch 22 I am at least close enough to drive somewhere for a weekend.

Seattle has the water and the mountains. The best of both worlds.

I like where I live, but love exploring new places. We are on our way home from a trip that has taken us from home in TN to Dayton, Ohio, to NE Oklahoma and Oiklahoma City, to Ft. Worth , Austen, San Antonio, and Tyler, Texas, and now on our way home. We have lived several places and teravel as much as we can. There is always something interesting to see, no matter where you go.

Wow, Pat! That's a big travel circle! Bet you're feeling every mile by now. I love traveling, but after a while, my own bed starts calling to me.

Somehow it's harder to hear when I'm on a cruise ship! ;-)
