Worth a 1000 Words

Sometimes, a picture can be a jumping off place for a story. I love this shot my DH snapped as we were pulling out of the harbor in St. Thomas. Check out the seacave at the waterline on this little island.

What do you think might live in that cave?
What sort of history might it have?
Is the cave a portal to another world?

Have you got an idea for a story starter to share?

I love the calm beauty of this picture!
For some reason it makes me think of jigsaw puzzles. Maybe because of all the great stories it suggests?
Great inspirational piece.

Ooh, I love sea caves. Makes me think of pirates, treasure and the Goonies, and of cave dwellers and heroic people hiding from oppressive governments and such...

I'm loving the picture blog idea, by the way. A good fun twist for when you're on holiday!

American merchant ship evading both the British and pirates. Is damaged by encounter with one of above. Sinks in a storm. H & H stranded on island. Contentious relationship before ship sank, not much better now. He has a price on his head. Must hide in sea cave when ships approach until an american ship can be flagged down to get them to safety. Lot of missing details, but they can be worked out. Maybe: A soggy spy who lost his cover and needs to get the information to the American government. She thinks he is an English sympathizer and wants nothing to do with him.

Maribeth--There are few places in the world that I visit regularly in my mind. This lovely little island is one of them.

Nynke--Great ideas! I wouldn't have thought of heroic people hiding from oppressive governments, but it works.

The British fort I posted on Friday was built by Irish convict labor. I wonder if any of them escaped and hid in Bermuda's extensive cave system.

JenJewell! I don't think a sailboat would be the best choice for me. (You know how I get motion sick. I do better in big ships with stabilizers.) Thanks for dropping by!

(Just FYI for the rest of you: Jen is my baby sister!)

Pat--You mentioned that you'd like to try your hand at writing. With ideas like those, you really should. You've got well-motivated characters, a built-in conflict, action and adventure.

What are you waiting for?

Oh, Emily! In that particular picture I see canons firing in the distance, someone is inches from being tossed off the plank, and the hero is dashing off to save her! Of course, he's dashing in breeches, boots, and nothing else. And, he's also red headed, about five ten or so, broad shouldered, has blue gray eyes, and has a jolly roger tattoo on his arm...and his name is Captain Whatever...who cares, as long as he's topless, right?
