Last Summer Fling

I always hate to see summer end, but here's a way to squeeze in one last fling. NightOwl Romance has teamed up with a bunch of authors (including me!) to bring you the SUMMER LOVE WEB HUNT.

It's an e-scavenger hunt that will have you visiting a number of websites, collecting the required info and registering for fabulous prizes (see NOR for details!) Of course the hope is that you'll find some new authors who intrigue you, but the main goal is to have some fun. The HUNT runs till Sept 8th, so you can go at a leisurely pace (but please visit my website first!)

And I get the chance to show off the new navigation bar on my website (My DH is so proud of this technological wonder! My website is sort of his toy and he has a love/hate relationship with it.)

As summer draws to a close, I thought I'd share the best book I've read this season. It's the one I just finished--Sherry Thomas's NOT QUITE A HUSBAND.

There is something about Sherry's prose that speaks to my heart, that makes me feel she's written her stories just for me. This book is about an estranged couple and how they find each other again. When her hero said, "The space between the stars is filled with your silence." I knew this couple was in deep trouble. Their path to reconcilliation and joy is as difficult as the path through Northern India they are traversing. Like in all Sherry's stories, her characters are desperately flawed and achingly human. She makes me weep and she gives me hope.

Ok. It's your turn. What's the best book you've read all summer?

I couldn't say just one. I've read so many that were great. Atlantis Unleashed and Unmasked by Alyssa Day, The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley, The Four soldiers books, (the first three) by Elizabeth Hoyt, The Vampyre Academy series by PC Cast. I am currently reading The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker by Leanna Renee Hieber. It's extraordinary.

Good morning,

I was fortunate enough to receive an eARC of Highland Dragon from Kimberly Killion at the end of July. I would have to say that this was probably the best book I have read all summer, maybe even thus far this year. Unfortunately everyone else has to wait until October to read it.

Cindy--I'll admit it was quite a horserace for me too. I loved Tessa Dare's GODDESS OF THE HUNT, Madeline Hunter's THE SINS OF LORD EASTERBROOKE, and TO BEGUILE A BEAST by Elizabeth Hoyt as well. And there were plenty of close runners up behind them as well. Face it, we've been offered a reading feast this summer!

Heather, you tease! Giving us the title of a book we can't have yet! Oh, well . . . anticipation builds the appetitite.

Most of the books Cindy and Emily list are in my TBR pile - I feel so behind!

I have to say my fav book I've read this summer was Georgette Heyer's The Grand Sophy. It seems an abomination that I hadn't read Heyer before but now that's taken care of!

Emily knows how much I loved Vexing the Viscount! another fab summer read for me!

I really cannot choose between Jennifer Ashley's "The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie" and Sherry Thomas's "Not Quite a Husband"

Since I read in several genre, I feel this year a very good summer for historical romance. All the books I love are in this genre.

Cheeky, thanks for mentioning VEXING THE VISCOUNT! I appreciate it and I appreciate your recommendation. I'll look for Heyer's THE GRAND SOPHY.

May--I really need to read LORD IAN since it's come up twice already. I love the premise. Jennifer Ashley is so brave to tackle a hero with Aspergers' Syndrome.

I've read several great books this summer. :-)

Shadows Of A Southern Moon by Meg Hennessy was excellent, and I don't normally care for Civil War era stories.

I've read three books by the amazing Christie Craig this summer and loved them all: Divorced, Desperate & Delicious, Divorced, Desperate, & Dating, and Gotcha!

The Conqueror by Kris Kennedy was fantastic.

Line Of Scrimmage & Love At First Flight by Marie Force were both good reads. :-)

Robin Schone's Cry for Passion. Awesome. I just finished Betina Krahn's Make Me Yours. Wowza! I'm reading a bunch more right now...I can't pick favs! But, I'm really excited about Diana Peterfreund's Rampant...oh please, mailman, deliver it today!

EmilyBryan said...

Donna--I love Christie Craig's work too. Oh, and another great contemporary I read this summer was Joy Nash's A LITTLE LIGHT MAGIC. Just the right dash of paranormal for a summer fling.

Elissa--Anticipation is lovely, but you sound quite anxious. I hope your package arrives today!

These "pick one" questions are always torture to answer. However one book I read this summer does spring to mind -- Betina Krahn's Make Me Yours. It's a short, intense, very sexy romance.

I can't choose one. My favorites include Joan Johnston's "Outcast," Jill Shalvis' "Double Play" and Allison Brennan's "Fatal Secrets."

EmilyBryan said...

Barbara--Elissa Wilds liked Betina's MAKE ME YOURS, too. I always take note when I hear multiple recommendations for the same book.

EmilyBryan said...

Jane--I sympathize. My pick was probably easier since I'd just finished the book and the characters were still running around in my head.

I haven't had a lot of time to read this summer, but I read Eclipse by Richard North Patterson. I still can't get the book out of my mind.

Sandy, I love it when a book lives on in my mind after I close the cover. The first time I read THE FAR PAVILIONS by MM Kaye, I got that feeling. I'd invested something in the characters. I'd tried on their lives.

I have Lord Ian in my TBR pile to read and I keep meaning to pull it out, but then it's new release day again...ugh!

Never read Sherry Thomas or Georgette Heyer. Something I think I will have to soon remedy.

So far my best summer read has been Summer of Two Wishes by Julia London. Loved it from start to finish.

I read a lot of historical romances this summer and these are my favorites (not in any order):

1. Tempted at Midnight - Jacqui D'Alessandro
2. At Last Comes Love - Mary Balogh
3. The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie - Jennifer Ashley
4. Every Night I'm Yours - Christie Kelley
5. To Seduce a Sinner - Elizabeth Hoyt
6. To Beguile a Beast - Elizabeth Hoyt
7. The Serpent Prince - Elizabeth Hoyt
8. Highland Warrior/Highland Outlaw/Highland Scoundrel - Monica McCarty
9. Her One Desire - Kimberly Killion

and last but not the least, Vexing the Viscount by Emily Bryan!

Reading historical romances is the best therapy (in my opinion)!

Booklover--Summer of Two Wishes is a wonderful title. Very evocative. Thanks for sharing.

Etriv--Bless your heart for listing VEXING THE VISCOUNT in that august company. I'm honored!
