I'm always a little sad when Labor Day weekend rolls around. It's the last hurrah of summer and pretty soon my little dog Susie will be prancing along complaining her feet are cold on the frosty sidewalk when we go outside! But as long as Labor Day is upon me, I'd better plan to take advantage of the long weekend. However, we don't intend to brave the insane traffic trying to get out of the city later today.
We're going to cocoon instead.
Before I was able to write full time, I'd look on this 3 day weekend as a chance to advance my WIP by 30 pages--a huge leap forward when my daily page output was only 2. But now, I plan to sleep late. Take in a movie. Celebrate my DH's B-day (which is Sunday). Maybe head out to Revere Beach (takes about 15 minutes to get there) and catch up on my beachreading.
Speaking of reading, I'm in the middle of Lauren Willig's THE TEMPTATION OF THE NIGHT JASMINE and loving it. She has a "then and now" sort of thing going on with the structure of the novel--a couple set in current time who are studying a couple set in the past. Lauren tells the story of each with a gently comedic tone and a bit of espionage in both time periods. I highly recommend it.
My blog has received another award, though the title of this one "OUTSTANDING ROMANCE BLOG" leaves me feeling a bit overwhelmed (and a little naughty since I don't stick with romance topics all the time!) Perhaps it's a subtle hint that I should stop wandering where ever my interests take me. But thank you to Sheree of THE ECLECTIC READER for giving me this "outstanding" award (and it's pretty, too!)
If you are looking for something to while away some idle time this weekend, may I suggest the NightOwl Summer Love Webhunt? It's an easy way to score some great reads and book swag. I'll even get you started on this cyber-scavenger hunt. The graphic you need to find on my website is about half-way down my Bookshelf page on the left.
So what are your plans for this holiday weekend? Are you reading a book that moves you now? And for my international readers (bless your heart, I know you're there!) do you have a holiday similar to our Labor Day--one that celebrates the worker by giving him a chance not to?
Enjoy and be safe!

I have visions of laying in my hammock daydreaming animal shapes in the clouds above...however, this will be one of those weekends where I am working on my manuscript. But I do intend to take a few breaks. Life is too short not to, right?
Your weekend sounds heavenly! The fact that you have a beach at your disposal? What bliss!
A safe and relaxing weekend to all!
Funny you should ask what I'm reading....hee hee! I just finished your novella in A Christmas Ball and I'm still feeling the love! So good! I also just finished Jeaniene Frost's 4th Huntress novel which was excellent. Weekend plans will be totally spontaneous and hopefully festive! Have a great Labor Day!- Penelope
Amanda--A hammock sounds lovely! We are getting spoiled with the beach so close. I've always said "Every day you can see the ocean is a day of vacation." Revere Beach may not be Waikiki, but I'll take it!
Penelope--I'm so glad you enjoyed A CHRISTMAS BALL and I'm on pins waiting for your review at Penelope's Romance Reviews! Thanks much for posting the cover!
Have a wonderful labour day weekend 'chillaxing'.
We have a labour day holiday in Australia but each state is different, celebrating anywhere between March & Oct. Ours is in May, go figure??
No hints with the award, I think your blog is perfect the way it is. The sentiment behind the award is to passionately support romance novels and not be afraid to show it! I did think it was a little weird when I received it but figured I fitted in there after all, I passionately support romance while also passionately supporting horror, thrillers, fantasy LOL
Thanks for the chunky recommendation too, I haven't read it so going on my list :-)
We will be spending the weekend catching up on all the cleaning I never get a chance to do. Plus I have boxes of books that I need to sort and put away. I'll have to live to 150 to read them all.
We go on vacation in 3 weeks, so I really need to get a lot done.
I just finished WOULD-BE WITCH by Kimberly Frost and enjoyed it. Nice to read something with a sense of humor. Finished A LITTLE LIGHT MAGIC two weeks ago or so. I got THE STRANGELY BEAUTIFUL TALE OF MISS PERCY PARKER by Leanna Renee Hieber today and can't wait to read it. Started THE DEMON'S LEXICON by Sarah Rees Brennan yesterday. It's a YA book and I'm previewing it for work. Finished WILD MAGIC by Cat Weatherill last week. A middle school book about what happens after the Pied Piper leads the children from Hamlin. I'm listening to Rollins' The Doomsday Key in my car. Am almost done with COURTING TROUBLE by Deeanne Gist a christian historical romance. My TBR pile keeps getting deeper and I can't read fast enough. I bought SILK DREAMS and DISTRACTING THE DUCHESS today. Was looking for ERINSONG. Onto the pile they go.
Have a great weekend and enjoy!
Teddy--The "Eclectic" in your blog title signals a broad spectrum of reading, but a passionate reader deserves recognition no matter the genre! I enjoy reading outside the romance genre, too. Mysteries, thrillers, quirky non-categorizable writers like Neil Gaiman, my list goes on . . .
BTW, have you tried him? My oldest daughter introduced me to his Anansi Boys--a funny, disturbing, frightening tale where fantasy and reality collide. But the story has exceedingly good bones. Gaiman uses African folk tale hero archetypes.
Pat--I read Joy Nash's A LITTLE LIGHT MAGIC when it first came out in May. What a great way to start (or end) the summer! And I've heard nothing but good things about THE STRANGELY BEAUTIFUL TALE OF MISS PERCY PARKER.
Deanna Gist's THE MEASURE OF A LADY was on my bedside table last April. It was an interesting peek into the days of the CA gold rush. I loved her characters.
Thank you for buying SILK DREAMS and DISTRACTING THE DUCHESS. You've chosen my darkest Diana Groe book and my first stab at light-hearted storytelling. I'll be interested to hear what you think. I appreciate your support so much! Hope you love them both.
Yes I adore Neil Gaiman, have listened to The Graveyard Book on audio which I absolutely loved, Neil Gaiman narrates himself, he's got a voice like warm honey, mmm. oh and Coraline, which was good too. I've also got American Gods on my bookshelf and I've seen some really good comments about Anansi Boys so must add that one to the list :-)
Teddy--Try Gaiman's NEVERWHERE and you'll never look at the London Tube the same way again. Brings a whole new meaning to the "Mind the Gap" warning!
Oh geez I'm getting vivid pics already LOL. Thanks it's going on my list!
