Arrived Alive!

After two airplanes and a 10 1/2 hour drive, we have finally arrived alive for my DH's family reunion. Now you need to understand that he's the youngest of 8 and his father was the oldest of 11. When all the aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws get together, it's like a small country moving in looking for refugee status!

This reunion includes a family golf tournament, a picnic and usually winds up at the bowling alley.

Does your family have reunions? What sort of things do you do for fun if you do?

Happy to hear you made it safe and sound!

My family has never had a family reunion. My mother is the youngest of 8 children, but none of the aunts get along well enough to make it through one night let alone a weekend.

Have a great time with your family.

We haven't been able to make it to a family reunion in years. The numbers are similar to yours. On my mother's side there were 9 children and over 65 in my generation. Add to that our children and grandchildren and yes, it does start to look like a small country.

My side of the family took that command to "be fruitful and multiply" a little less to heart. My dad is the oldest of 4 and I'm the oldest of 4 sisters. We used to have traveling reunions all over the country as each of his siblings took turns hosting it.

We went to a dude ranch in Wyoming one year, Nashville the next. And one year we went to Virginia in search of our "roots"--where the family originally settled in the late 1600's (which I always figured meant they were in serious trouble back in England!) Unfortunately, we haven't had a reunion since my Gma died a couple years ago. It may be time for my generation to take over hosting and organizing.

We are about to have 2 reunions, the first since my M in l and 2 bro in laws funerals. My daughter marries in 4 weeks in the UK, so a flight over for that and then 6 weeks later it is back again for our son's. The families are getting excited now :) Enjoy yours!

We're a bit like Glynis's family: we usually only reunite with the extended family at weddings and funerals. Both my parents aren't very close to their siblings(they've each got three left) - in fact, the brother my father talks to most is the one who lives on the other side of the planet, in Australia!
I'm glad to say that my brother and sister and me are much closer. I bet we'll still get together a lot when we have our own families :). I'd love for us to rent a cabin or something for a weekend and hang around, barbecue and go for a hike with the ones who are willing :).

We're actually going to get together for a reunion with my hubby's siblings and families this summer. It's been ages since they gathered in one spot. After one of the brothers died last year, they figured out they probably should stop putting it off.

We do tend to treat weddings and funerals as mini-reunions. I'm looking forward to a trip to the outer banks of NC in October for my cousin's wedding.
