Writing with the Stars
I've often said how important contests are in helping a writer make the transition from unpublished to under contract. Right now there's a terrific contest being offered from Kensington Publishing. It's called Writing with the Stars! In this contest, the top 10 contestants will be matched up with a Brava author for mentoring through the final online judging. (Even though I'm a Brava author now--be sure to check out my author page!-- I'm too new to be a mentor. Maybe next year!) The contest is limited to the first 500 entries so be sure to have your completed manuscript ready to go on July 1st.
This contest has been responsible for launching several writers' careers: Lori Foster, Sylvia Day and Jacqueline Frank to name a few. The grand prize is a publishing contract.
For the details, please visit Brava Authors. Brava encompasses contemporary, paranormal and historical. The common element is the sensuality level. This is a very sensual line, so be sure your story premise lends itself to a hot relationship between your hero and heroine.
Good luck!

As usual, Emily, you are a wealth of information when it comes to helping others. I'll definitely be checking this out! :) You know, I had completely forgotten or just didn't realize Brava encompassed historical works.
Ok, now I really DO feel like an idiot. I didn't make the connection between Maggie Robinson's new book and Brava. Sheesh, I need to start paying better attention...
It looks like a lot fun! :) Contests are awesome for networking and meeting new writing buddies. I met so many cool people in the Dorchester contest and I will be forever grateful to Dorchester and Textnovel for the contest. I learned so much about the process as far as marketing and networking as well as making some awesome new friends. I also learned how to hold my tongue and sit on my fingers before typing. *g*
Gillian--My Bravas will be historicals (with a touch of paranormal) but straight historical romances are welcome too.
Yes, Maggie writes historicals for them, as does Diane Whiteside. And Sylvia Day has a terrific historical coming from Brava next February.
Saranna--I still let my fingers fly, but I always stop and consider before I hit send. Once something is launched into cyber-space, it's there forever.
Thank you for writing thiis
